It's that time of the year, we are now less than a week away from Thanksgiving.  One of the best ways to enjoy turkey is one that is deep fried, nothing beats the juiciness and flavor of a fried turkey.

Along with deep frying your turkey, there comes the risk of fire damage to your home.  Statistics show there are multiple deaths each year, many more injuries, and a lot of property damage from these fires.

To help keep you and your family safe we have compiled some safety precautions to take to reduce the risk of a fire.

  • Always deep fry outdoors.   If you are outside, there is much less risk for your home to catch fire and a reduced risk of injury.
  • Keep your fryer away from structures as well as trees.  If something does go wrong, you don't want to be near items that could catch flame and spread.
  • Don't overfill the fryer with oil.  Even a little oil spilling onto a burner can cause a fire.
  • Have the proper equipment.  A fryer with temperature controls is ideal.  ALWAYS keep a fire extinguisher handy.  Of course, don't forget potholders!
  • Choose a smaller turkey.   Turkeys around 8-10 lbs are recommended, anything over that increases your risk.

The most important tip?  Dive in and enjoy the delicious bird and enjoy time with friends and family!
